Regional Sales Manager-Retail



The incumbent is responsible to manage sales activities throughout the assigned retail markets. The incumbent is responsible to maximize sales and profits, to broaden product penetration, to ensure the highest level of service utilizing relationships with customers, brokers, distributors, and Corporate support resources.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


  1. Manage sales activities through broker network and on a direct basis as needed.
  2. Visit key customers in the marketplace to solidify relationships and/or develop new business.
  3. Build and maintain positive relationships with customers at all levels, including senior management.
  4. Monitor and evaluate market pricing and competitive situations, and make recommendations to management as needed.
  5. Have a complete knowledge of Comany’s customer strategy and corporate direction.
  6. Maintain general customer files, including current contact information for key accounts.
  7. Understand issues and needs of the customers at key levels, including marketing, logistics, accounting, operations, sales and procurement.
  8. Coordinate marketing activities in assigned markets. Develop and execute Corporate sales and marketing plans to achieve targets.
  9. Conduct training sessions with brokers and key customers.
  10. Work with Corporate staff and brokers to monitor and coordinate inventory level and product placement at Company’s regional warehouses in assigned markets.
  11. Manage bid activities in the assigned markets.
  12. Work with Corporate support staff and management to set up and maintain promotions on a timely basis, and to ensure the ongoing accuracy of bill-backs, off-invoice, etc.
  13. Support the set up (and ensure the accuracy) of price lists and price changes.
  14. Review daily, weekly, monthly “Corporate” reports, and react as needed to ensure appropriate service and financial results.
  15. Manage the accounts receivable process including past due invoices and deductions.
  16. Coordinate the new-customer-set-up process. Support the collection of data needed by A/R to establish line of credit. Determine the appropriate, initial and ongoing, credit line.
  17. Monitor daily traffic and load reports related to buyers trucks and delivered loads, and manage as needed to resolve issues.
  18. Attend food shows. Ensure excellent set up, appearance, and functioning of our booth. Serve as a subject-matter expert to convey the benefits of our product to food show attendees.
  19. Handle customer complaints including product quality, delivery schedule, pricing, etc.
  20. Assist General Sales Manager with National and Chain accounts as assigned.
  21. Retrieve information using internal and customer-based systems.
  22. Perform other related duties as required or assigned.



Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four year college or university and four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience and a minimum of four years of management experience.


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business and industry-specific reports, common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.


Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Must possess a valid driver’s license.


Regular contacts within the department, with other departments, and with management as needed.


Regular contacts with brokers, distributors, and customers.


Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer, various associated software programs and standard office equipment.


Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects. Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff.
